Whenever holidays roll around, my kids all go into super MAKE mode. They want to create crafts, decorations, goodies, costumes, etc etc. I love all that creative energy!
But at the same time, I am done with clutter! I do not need one more craft stick or pom pom clogging up my house. We are looking like a truck full of craft supplies exploded in here.
To balance the creative crafty urge with my desire for zero more foam stickers, I have turned to the outdoors of course! So we are decorating the trees in our yard for the holidays.
Plus, I have packaged them up to give away to other clutter-resistant friends. Win-win!!
How to Make Bird Seed Cookies (Ornaments)
- 1 pack unflavored gelatin
- 2 Cups bird seed
- 2 Tablespoons cold water
- 1/3 Cup boiling water
- cookie cutters
- wax paper
Put the unflavored gelatin into a bowl with the cold water. Let this sit for 1 minute.
Add boiling water to the gelatin, stirring until the gelatin is dissolved.
Next add bird seed to the gelatin and mix.
On a sheet of wax paper, lay out your cookie cutters. Fill each cookie cutters with the birdseed mix and press into the shape. Use the toothpick to make a small hole for the string.
Refrigerate for a few hours to set. Carefully pop the cookies out of their molds and thread a string through the hole.
Hang outside for your feathered friends to enjoy! Makes 7-8

These are amazing for a holiday crafty gift for kids to enjoy. Just a quick little gift to bring around to the neighbors.
And you can do it for any holiday if you can find the right cookie cutters. Which is every holiday right! (May the 4th anyone?)
To package these up as a gift, I put the bird seed, gelatin package, and some string inside a bag. Then attached the Bird Seed Cookie instructions and a couple of cookie cutters to the outside. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!
