Embark on a winter hike without losing your feet in the snow. Snowshoes have been used for thousands of years and now we use same that tried and true method for an all ages snowy adventure.
Imagine a journey into the serene snow blanketed woods. Snowshoes make it easier to make that journey a reality. They distribute your weight evenly over the snow so you “float” on top instead of sinking in. Most modern snowshoes are strap on and go models and work with winter boots you already own. Although there are a few techniques that make it easier to scale hills, we consider snowshoeing a “no skill” activity.
For the first time family, your best bet is to join an organized snowshoe hike and rent or borrow snowshoes. I know that our local sporting goods store rents out snowshoes so just check around to see who carries them.
With all snow activities, we beg you to travel with a guide with avalanche training or get some yourself. It is always best to be safe especially if you are in the back country snow.
